We still do not know the cause of the fire that destroyed the GTOI crane
at the construction site of the new coast road during the night from
Sunday to Monday. An expert has been appointed and is expected to visit
the La Possession site very soon to examine the machine. This expertise
will support the findings of the police in charge of the investigation.
For now, there is no evidence to decide whether it is a question of a
voluntary or an accidental fire. But the timing, a Sunday, late at
night, when the crane had not been operating for at least 24 hours,
makes the origin suspicious.
Around midnight the fire started in the engine, which had the effect of
cutting the cables holding the crane up. The latter then collapsed,
crushing a truck parked nearby. The crane is completely destroyed. An
investigation has begun, entrusted to the research brigade of
Saint-Paul.
